Russell Gould's letter to the UC Regents regarding recent events at UC Irvine and UC San
Diego:

TO THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA
The University of California's commitment to diversity and tolerance for differing points of view
is one of the hallmarks of its character. Recent events on the San Diego and Irvine campuses that
are inconsistent with these values are profoundly disappointing. On behalf of the Board of
Regents, I have asked President Yudof to arrange to have Chancellors Fox and Drake provide a
report to the Board at its March meeting detailing the facts of the recent incidents and what
actions are being taken to ensure that these types of confrontations do not occur in the future.
While appropriate investigations are still underway, both chancellors already have taken steps, in
partnership with their campus communities, to begin to address the attitudes that resulted in these confrontations.

The president has also issued a public statement regarding the incidents. Please
see the information below regarding these statements and actions.
